I am making steady progress with the medium ' Rocky ' horse. It's a bit slow but that is because I am testing equipment to see what works best for the process. I have settled on the Kutxall carving disc for roughing out and the Typhoon shaping disc for finishing and shaping. I will use various hand tools and small carving burrs for detail.
....I had to pick up just a few more tools lol...this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3is-SzdDj3g and this one : http://www.leevalley.com/en/Wood/page.aspx…( the bottom disc ) DeWALT Small Angle Grinder DWE402 I have the new carving disc...which I can use on the angle grinder we have, while I wait for my new DeWalt Angle grinder... Rough carving the rocking horses will now be a BREEZE! :D
The medium sized 'Rocky' horse ready for carving!
It should look similar to this one when it's completed. : https://www.rockinghorse.co.uk/hand-carved-horses.html?details=true&id=565 Currently I am carving with a gouge and a chisel, but I am looking into one of these however, to speed up carving time : http://www.leevalley.com/en/wood/page.aspx?p=65681&cat=1%2C130%2C43409%2C43410
