...I'm getting closer....

The horse is literally taking shape now...work on the head has begun! This is the part I love best because it gives each horse a special unique appearance. I tend to take my time with this. :)

Once the rough carving of the head is complete, I then fine sand the entire horse in preparation for the gesso. Gesso is like a type of glue with white powder in it - it seals the horse and helps hold it together as well as giving it a sand-able and paintable base. The gesso will also make areas where adjustment is needed easier to see.
